GLYLOC 40MG TABLET contains Gliclazide which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. It is used in adults to treat Type II diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise and lifestyle changes alone does not result in adequate response.

 

Type II diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease associated with abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood. It is caused either due to inadequate production of a hormone called insulin (produced by pancreas to metabolize glucose) or due to inadequate sensitivity of body cells to the actions of insulin.

 

 

During therapy with GLYLOC 40MG TABLET, your doctor might ask you to make certain lifestyle changes such as following a healthy diet, regular physical exercise and quitting alcohol consumption.

Before taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any hormonal problems, genetic disorders (such as G6PD deficiency) or if you are malnourished, starved, on an irregular diet.

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is not suitable for use in patients with type I diabetes mellitus. Consult your doctor before taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.

 

One of the most common side effects of taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) which can be identified through symptoms such as increased hunger, sweating, shakiness, weakness or an irregular heartbeat. To avoid this, your doctor will periodically monitor your blood sugar levels and adjust the dose of GLYLOC 40MG TABLET accordingly.

 

You can also carry a sugary snack (such as biscuits, glucose drinks or sweet candies) along with you as a precaution and have them immediately if you experience any signs of hypoglycemia. However, consult your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition. Other common side effects of taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET are headache, dizziness and constipation.

HOW GLYLOC 40MG TABLET WORKS

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET effectively controls blood sugar levels, where gliclazide makes the pancreas secrete more insulin to digest the circulating sugars (glucose) in the blood. It also makes the body more sensitive to insulin which helps in utilizing the circulating blood glucose (sugars) leading to decrease in blood glucose levels.

 

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take GLYLOC 40MG TABLET before meals or as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not cursh or chew the medicine.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to take GLYLOC 40MG TABLET for the duration recommended by your doctor to achieve better control over blood sugar levels.

Stop taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:


Severe allergic reaction (such as skin rash, swelling of the face, eyelids, lips, tongue or throat which causes difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
Severe skin reactions (such as DRESS characterized by fever or flu-like symptoms along with skin rashes with widespread blistering or peeling of skin)
Signs of liver problems (such as fever, yellowing of skin and whites of the eyes, weakness, fatigue, weight loss and loss of appetite)
Signs of severe decrease in blood sugar level (such as confusion, headache, excessive sweating, clammy skin, trembling, weakness, double vision, excessive hunger, nausea, vomiting, problems in sleeping, feeling agitated, unable to concentrate, drowsiness, loss of consciousness, slowed reactions, depression, trouble seeing or speaking, paralysis, numbness, dizziness, hallucinations, difficulty in breathing, slowed or faster heartbeat with chest pain)


 

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

 

Headache:  

Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

 

Dizziness:

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

 

Diarrhea:

Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not self-treat diarrhea on your own. Consult your doctor if your diarrhea becomes uncontrollable.

 

Constipation:

Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.

 

Low blood sugar:

Have foods rich in sugars such as fruit juices, glucose drinks, candies, honey or biscuits. Check your blood sugar after 10 minutes. If not gained optimum level, take another sugary snack or a drink and check the blood sugar again. consult your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition.

 

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS



PREGNANCY

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.



BREASTFEEDING

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.



DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or experience blurred vision after taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET.



ALCOHOL

Avoid alcohol consumption while taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET as it could aggravate your exisiting condition.



KIDNEY

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease. It should be used with caution in patients with decreased kidney functions. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.



LIVER

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with decreased liver functions. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.



ALLERGY

Do not take GLYLOC 40MG TABLET if you are allergic to Gliclazide or to any other medicines that belongs to sulphonylureas (such as glibenclamide, glipizide).

 

OTHERS

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:


Type I diabetes (or insulin-dependent diabetes)
Diabetic ketoacidosis (increased levels of sugar and ketone bodies in the blood)
Diabetic coma or pre-coma
Serious traumatic injury
G6PD deficiency (an inherited blood disorder)
Prophyria (an inherited blood disorder)


Before taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET inform your doctor if you:


Are malnourished, starved, on an irregular diet or feeling weak
Perform extreme physical exercises
Have hormonal problems (Ex. disorders of pituitary gland, adrenal cortex or thyroid gland)


 

 

Use in pediatrics:

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before administration.

 

Use in geriatrics:

GLYLOC 40MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients especially in those who take medicines such as CNS depressants or beta-blockers. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Before taking GLYLOC 40MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:


Other antidiabetic medications such as metformin, insulin, glipizide, glibenclamide, dapaglifozin, teneligliptin etc.
Antifungal medicines (used to treat fungal infections) such as miconazole or fluconazole
St. John’s Wort (a herbal preparations used to treat depression)
Antibiotics (used to treat bacterial infections) such as fluorquinolones (Ex. ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin), clarithromycin, co-trimoxazole, rifampicin, chlormaphenicol, tetracyclines or sulphonamides (Ex. sulphasalazine)
Medicines used to treat high blood pressure or heart failure such as beta blockers (Ex. atenolo, propranolol), ACE-inhibitors (Ex. captopril or enalapril)
Medicines used to treat stomach ulcers such as ranitidine, famotidine
Medicines used to treat depression (such as moclobemide, isocarboxazid, phenelzine and tranylcypromine)
Medicines used for pain relief (Ex. aspirin, phenylbutazone, ibuprofen, phenylbutazone, azapropazone)
Medicines containing alcohol such as cough preparations
Medicines to treat mental illness (such as chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, lithium)
Corticosteroids (used to treat pain and inflammation) Ex. prednisolone, cotisone, betamethasone
Medicines used to treat asthma (Ex. salbutamol, terbutaline)
 Ritodrine (a medicine used to stop pre-mature labour)
Danazol (a medicine used to treat breast disorders, heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis)
Medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. warfarin).
Diuretics (used to increase urine ouptut and to reduce edema) such as bendroflumethiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide
Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) Ex. drospirenone, ethinylestradiol
Sulfinpyrazone (a medicine used to treat gout)
Aminoglutethimide (a medicine used to treat breast cancer or prostate cancer)
Thyroid hormones such as thyroxine (used to treat thyroid deficiency)
Octreotide (a medicine used to treat bleeding in the gut)
Testosterone (a hormonal medicine used to treat delayed puberty in men)
Cimetidine (a medicine used to treat stomach ulcers)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took more of GLYLOC 40MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include signs of low blood glucose levels such as weakness, sweating, trembling, fast heartbeat, confusion and double vision.
